Writing An Argumentative EssayArgumentative essay topics include public opinion, the media, politics, religion, family life, and the environment. The goal of an argumentative essay is to convince the reader that the position you take is correct, by using sound argumentation. You should follow these rules for each of the argumentative essay topics:o Public Opinion. You can express your point of view on any issue, even if it is unpopular. On a much more serious note, the media can influence public opinion in a negative way. You can use this to your advantage, making your point as to why the media is incorrect. Use reason and logic to support your position.o Controversy. If you wish to argue for your position, but have no idea what you are talking about, you may want to consider being controversial. For example, you can write about the benefits of the helicopter to the various people in the community, because many people believe it is a great invention, and others believe it is a waste of money. However, you might not know which side to choose because there are several viewpoints on the subject.o Scientific Fact. This one is very easy to write about, and requires little research. For example, you could write about the superiority of the electric motor over the gasoline engine, which in reality is not a fact.o Political Arguments. Write about an issue that you feel strongly about, and try to support your point of view with facts. Arguments can be made for either side, but in order to be successful in your argument, you will need to show how your side is better than the other side.o The Environment. You should always try to focus on the positive aspects of our society, the community, or the family life. Many different opinions exist on this topic, so you will need to have a solid foundation in order to support your position.o Your Argument. Think of a list of questions to ask yourself before you start writing. Do not forget to consider your audience, and you should be able to write a convincing argument, based on the information you have gathered.Any persuasive essay is nothing without research. However, the research that you do needs to be balanced, so you should not lean too heavily on just one side of the spectrum. It is best to provide balance for your readers by pointing out both sides of the argument, and leaving them enough room to make up their own minds.
